EC resets balloting after a delay of over eight months due to the pandemic
The Election Commission has fixed January 27 for the Chittagong City Corporation elections after it was delayed due the Covid-19 outbreak,
Its Secretary Md Alamgir made the announcement on Monday, when he said electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used to cast the votes in the polls at the port city.
The elections were originally scheduled for March 29 this year but was postponed after the pandemic unfolded in Bangladesh earlier the same month.
Voting in 64 municipalities on January 30
On Monday, the commission also announced the schedule for the third phase of the municipality polls.
Voting will be held in 64 municipalities across the country on January 30.
The deadline for filing nominations ends on December 31, Senior Secretary Alamgir of the commission said.
Nominations will be scrutinized on January 3 while the last day for withdrawals from the race is January 10.
The commission has already announced the schedule for the first two phases of the election, with voting set for December 28 and January 16.
