8-year-old raped and killed in Bogra

She went missing when she went to go buy some chips after hearing a sermon at the mosque with her grandparents

Police in the early hours of Tuesday recovered the unclothed body of an eight-year-old girl who was reportedly killed after rape in Dhunot upazila, Bogra.

The victim, Tabassum Khatun, went to a mosque with her grandparents to hear the exegesis (Tafsir) of the Quran, at Nasratpur village of Chowkibari union in Dhunot on Monday night.

She went missing after she went to a shop to buy chips. Later her body was found at a Bamboo garden in the village at 1am on Tuesday, said Dhunot police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kripa Sindhu Bala.

The girl had been staying with her grandparents in Nasratpur and was a second grader at Panchthupi-Nasratpur Government Primary School. Her parents work in a garment factory in Dhaka, the OC said quoting locals.

Police are primarily suspecting that the girl has been stragled to death after rape and drives are being made to arrest the culprits involved, the OC added.
