Man arrested for rape, murder of schoolgirl in Rangpur after 7 years

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) unearthed the motive and mystery of the murder of a schoolgirl after rape and arrested the perpetrator on Tuesday night after about seven years of the incident in Pirganj upazila of the district.

“After 7 long years, we have revealed the mystery of murdering the raped ninth class student of Jaipur village of Pirganj upazila,” CID’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Milu Mia Biswas disclosed this at a press briefing held at his office in the afternoon.

The arrested rapist Hasanur Zaman Shipon alias Tekka of the same village is a cousin of the victim.

During preliminary interrogation by CID personnel, Shipon confessed to the rape and murder.

The SP said that Hasanur Zaman Shipon Tekka tactfully entered into a love affair with the ninth grade student, daughter of Kalam Mian in Jaipur village of Pirganj Upazila, and raped her several times on April 10, 2014.

The victim became pregnant.

When the matter came to light, accused Shipon suffocated her to death and hanged her body from the ceiling fan in her room in a bid to divert the incident into a case of suicide.

The victim’s father filed a case in this connection with Pirganj police station.

However, the case was not resolved even after the changing of police investigating officer six times till 2018.

Finally, the CID was given the task of investigating the case two years ago.

The CID conducted DNA tests of Shipon. The DNA tests matched with Shipon thereby confirming that he was behind the incidents.

“After confirmation, a CID police team arrested Shipon last night,” the SP added.
