Process of filing departmental cases against them is underway
Police headquarters on Monday suspended two officials of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) on allegations of irregularities and corruption.
The officials are -- reserve inspector Abdus Salam and reserve officer sub-inspector Khairuddin.
Their involvement in various irregularities were exposed after 34-year-old Rayhan Ahmed, a resident of Akharia in Sylhet city, was beaten to death in police custody at the Bandar Bazar police outpost on October 11.
According to police sources, the police headquarters found primary evidence of corruption and asked to lodge departmental cases against the two officials.

SMP Commissioner Nisharul Arif said he has already received the order signed by the headquarters' Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Rezaul Haq
"Process of filing departmental cases against them is underway," he added.
Police said Khairuddin has already been transferred to Dhaka range of police.
When contacted, Salam said he is unaware of the order from the headquarters.
