The guns were used for intimidating people, according to BGB sources
A team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained the president of the anti-corruption committee of Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari upazila after finding four guns at his house.
Acting on a tip-off, BGB Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) raided the house of Shah Sirajul Islam, 50, in Dakshin Baishari area under Baishari union in the upazila on Sunday morning and recovered four locally made guns from there. Sirajul was detained at that time.
Md Jahidul Islam, acting adjutant of 11 BGB, confirmed the matter.
A businessman by profession, Sirajul is the president of the anti-corruption committee of Naikhongchhari upazila.
According to BGB sources, Sirajul’s guns were used for intimidating people.
The recovered guns and Sirajul were later handed over to Naikhongchhari police station.
The weapons were kept at the police station and a case was filed against Sirajul, said Md Alamgir Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC).
