A bus helper has been arrested in a case filed over the attempted rape of a college student on a moving bus in Sunamganj.
The helper, Rashed Mia, was arrested from the Gobindaganj area of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj, on Monday morning.
Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
According to sources from Sunamganj Minibus Owners' Association, the student was travelling from Sylhet to Dirai. At one point, seeing that there was nobody else on board except the student, the crew attempted to rape her. In a desperate attempt to save herself, the student jumped off the moving bus, seriously injuring herself.
She was rushed to Dirai Upazila Health Complex and later moved to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The bus driver and helpers have been on the run since the incident.
The victim's father filed a rape attempt case against three people at Dirai police station on the night of December 26.
