Sajid Hossain, a 15-year-old boy, has saved thousands of lives from a potentially horrific train accident in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat.

According to locals, around 1pm on Sunday, Sahida Begum, the mother of the boy, noticed that a portion of the railway track near Khasbaguri area was broken.

Later, following the directions of his mother, the teenage boy waved a red flag and stopped the Dhaka-bound train.

The tenth-grader said: “I had waved a red t-shirt to signal the train driver. Fortunately, the driver noticed the signal in time and was able to stop the train in time to prevent a disaster.”

Raihan Hossain, a worker of the rail line, said: “After getting direction from the office, we rushed to the spot and repaired the railway track. The route became normal after a one hour break.”

Confirming the matter, Joypurhat Railway Master Habibur Rahman said that the train was saved from a serious disaster.

According to reports published in Dhaka Tribune in the second week of November 2019, local boys saved thousands of lives from a potentially horrific train accident in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.

Around 6pm on Friday, a group of young boys noticed that a portion of the railway track near the Borboria-Gona area was damaged.

When the Dinajpur bound Ekota Express train was entering Raninagar, the boys waved their red shirts and scarves to signal the train driver. Fortunately, the driver noticed their signal in time and was able to stop the train in time to prevent a disaster.

Raninagar Railway Station Master Md Manik said: "A group of brave and quick thinking boys managed to stop the Ekota Express train by waving red scarves and shirts and thus saving the onboard passengers from any harm. A team from the Santahar Railway Junction repaired the damaged rail line soon after receiving the news."

The authorities repaired the tracks by replacing the damaged clamp at 7:30pm that day and after one and a half hours railway communications resumed.
