A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of Awami League, has been shot to death in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.

Usman Shikder, 30, a resident of the village, was the vice president of the upazila unit Chhatra League. He was the former president of the student wing's Sabrang union unit.
Nur Hossain, chairman of the union parishad (UP), said Usman came under attack and got injured at Sabrang Nayapara Bazar on December 27 following an argument centring a theft of a three-wheeler vehicle, locally known as Tomtom.
Mohammad Shaker, son of former union parishad member Mohammad Abdullah, and one Kefayet Ullah beat up Usman on the day. He later filed a complaint against them with Teknaf police station.
Following the incident, they gunned Usman down while he was on his way to the mosque to offer Fazr prayers, the UP chairman claimed.
Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the spot and the assailants fled the scene.
Usman was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty physician declared him dead, he added.
Ayub Hossain, physician of the health complex, said Usman was brought dead. Marks of three bullets were found in his body.
Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said Shaker and Kefayet are the listed yaba peddlers and human traffickers. They are also accused in a number of cases.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy, he added.
"We are conducting drives to arrest the perpetrators."
A case was filed in this connection.
