The incident occurred in Malir Chala village under the district’s Sagardighi union of Ghatail upazila on Saturday night.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Ghatail police station Officer-in-Charge OC (investigation) Saiful Islam said: “A case was filed over the incident on Sunday night against five people. We are investigating the matter.
“Efforts are underway to arrest those accused.”

She was tortured in front of her children and according to locals her son Polash was also tortured over the theft allegations on January 3.
One of the accused in the case, Mostafa Bhuiyan, said: “Polash has stolen my younger sister's gold jewellery.
“After stealing the valuables, Polash had kept them with his mother. They were repeatedly asked to give back the stolen items but they refused to comply.
“As a result of this, my younger sister Sumi tied Sondha Rani to a tree. We don't know anything else.”
