Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student affiliate of Awami League, have locked the Rajshahi University Vice Chancellor (VC) M Abdus Sobhan, at his official residence on the campus, demanding jobs.
They also locked down the administration building of the university while staging demonstrations on Monday night.
The leaders and activists continued their demonstrations till Tuesday morning, taking position in front of the residence of the vice chancellor.
Around 8:30am, they unlocked the gate of the residence and left the place. Later, they took position in front of the administration building.
Campus sources said the authorities appointed a person in the post of Section Officer on an ad hoc basis on Monday.
Upon learning of the matter, 20 to 25 former and incumbent leaders and activists of the university unit Chhatra League took position in front of the residence of the vice chancellor around 7:30pm.
Additional police were also deployed then in front of the residence.

Later on, a group of six Chhatra League men led by its RU unit President Golam Kibria entered the residence for a discussion with the vice chancellor.
Following the hour-long meeting, they came out of the residence and locked down the main entrance.
Kibria said:"We have come to know that an individual was appointed on an ad hoc basis. We met the vice chancellor to ask him why the leaders and activists of Chhatra League are not getting jobs."
When asked, VC Abdus Sobhan said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) sent a letter to the university authorities to appoint a disabled person in the post.
"As there is a suspension order from the Education Ministry on all kinds of recruitment, I informed the matter to the secretary who asked me to follow the instruction of PMO.
"Several job seekers met me in the evening and demanded jobs. I informed them about the matter. I am also trying for them," he added.
