An infant girl’s genitals and ear were burnt with acid over a dispute between neighbours in Gazipur.

A case has been filed over the incident by the child’s father with Kapasia police station, accusing his neighbour Shamsunnahar of committing the horrific crime.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kapasia police station Alam Chad, said: “The baby girl’s father filed a case with us on Tuesday. A sub-inspector (SI) has been assigned to the case.
“One suspect has already been detained.”
According to the case dockets, the accused Shamsunnahar threw acid on the right ear and genitals of the infant when she was alone in the front yard of the house on January 8 and immediately fled the scene.
The child is now undergoing treatment at Kapasia Upazila Health Complex after being treated at the capital’s Birdem General Hospital.
When contacted, Abdus Salam, health and planning officer of Kapasia Upazila Health Complex, said that evidence of acid burns had been found on the baby’s right ear and genitals.
“We have referred the baby to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for further treatment,” Abdus added.
