Police on Wednesday arrested a leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League for capturing private footage of his landlord’s college-going daughter using a hidden camera in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.
The arrested Himel Sikder, 23, identified as general secretary of Fatehpur union unit Chhatra League, was sent to jail through a court order on Thursday.
Police and locals said Himel Sikder rented an apartment in Mirzapur union para about eight months ago. For the past several days, Himel had been recording his landlord’s daughter taking showers using a hidden camera placed in her bathroom.
He was caught red-handed while trying to place a hidden camera in one of the apartments rented by a married couple on Tuesday night.
Put under pressure, Himel confessed to his intentions of spying on the married couple and also to capturing private footage of his landlord’s daughter.
Following the incident, Himel was removed from the post of general secretary of Fatehpur union unit and he was also recommended to the central committee for expulsion, said Saddam Hussein Khan, president of the Mirzapur upazila unit Chhatra League.
Mirzapur police station OC Sheikh Rizaul Haque Dipu said the girl’s mother filed a case under the Digital Security Act. “Himel's mobile phone and hidden camera were seized and he was later sent to jail.”
