A total of 456,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine reached Chittagong Civil Surgeon office on January 31
Chittagong is all set for the much-awaited vaccination drive from Sunday.
The program will start at 10 am at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Chittagong Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir, CMCH Director Brig Gen SM Humayun Kabir, and Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi will be present at the inaugural ceremony.
CMCH Director Brig Gen Humayun said that they had taken all-out preparation to administer the vaccine at the hospital.
“The inoculation drive will begin with four booths housed on the third floor of the hospital. Initially, we have received 100 vials through which 1,000 doses of vaccine can be administered,” the CMCH director told Dhaka Tribune.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said the authorities had taken all-out preparations to roll out the vaccines from February 7.
On January 31, a total of 456,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine reached the Chittagong Civil Surgeon office.
As many as 154,905 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been allocated for the port city dwellers. The remaining 301,095 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been distributed among 14 Upazilas under Chittagong.
Bangladesh is using the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine which has been manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. The Bangladesh government has purchased 30 million doses of the vaccine from the Serum Institute of India.
It has already received a total of 7 million doses of the vaccine, including two million free doses from the Indian government.
Besides, the country is also expected to receive 12.5 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in the first half of 2021 under COVAX.
