A travel agency trader came under attack and was robbed of Tk35 lakh in front of the tempo stand adjacent to Gulistan Golap Shah Mazar in the capital on Sunday.
The injured businessman, Shahidul Islam, 45, of Feni’s Parashuram upazila is a resident of Purana Paltan. He was receiving treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital at the time of filing this report.
He is the proprietor of Shahidul & Ikhwan Enterprise, managing director at Bismillah Automation Trading in Motijheel.
The injured businessman told reporters that he was on his way to Motijheel with Tk35 lakh in a bag that he was going to deposit in a bank.
While he was crossing the tempo station near the Gulistan Telephone Building, miscreants stopped his rickshaw and beat him up before snatching the bag from him.
He then went to Paltan police station to file a complaint, from where Shahbagh police station was informed. Later, Shahidul went to DMCH for treatment.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the ophthalmology department. Hospital sources said several stitches were made under the left eye of the injured.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh police station Mamunur Rashid said: "I have heard [about the incident], but I have not received any written complaint." The man went to Paltan police station, from where he went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.”
Asked about the robbery, he said the whole matter was being investigated.
