Police have arrested one accused in the case
A college student has been lynched near Brac's Dip in Khalia village under Monirampur upazila of Jessore allegedly after attempting to steal a motorcycle.
The deceased was identified as Borhan Hossain. His father has filed a case with Rajganj police over the incident.
Naeem Hossain, son of Nur Islam of Krishnubati village under the same upazila, has been arrested in connection with the murder.
Inspector Shahjahan Hossain, in-charge of Rajganj Police Investigation Centre, said: “Borhan’s father Ahsanul Kabir was the first person to file a complaint, over his son being assaulted. Since Borhan died in the assault, it has now been turned into a murder case.”
According to the victim's family, Borhan was a student of class 11 at Monirampur Government College.Due to the closure of educational institutions, he had started working as a teacher at an accounting coaching centre.
Borhan’s uncle Kajol Hossain said Borhan was mentally distressed and had been acting strangely for some time.
According to his family, Borhan was going to Sagra road near Khalia village on a bicycle on Saturday morning. At around 10:30am in the morning, he allegedly tried to snatch the keys of accused Naeem’s motorcycle.
Later, a group of people, including Naeem, grabbed Borhan and started beating him.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, members of Rajganj Police Investigation Centre went to the spot and rescued Borhan in critical condition.
Police first took him to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex for medical attention. When his condition deteriorated, Borhan was transferred to Jessore and then again to Dhaka.
Borhan died shortly after arriving in Dhaka at around 4am on Sunday, his uncle Rikon Hossain said.
