Ahsania Mission comes to the aid of the poor

Rizia Khatun is a housemaid and the sole earner of her family of three people. Her husband Monirul Gazi is physically challenged and so is their only daughter, Sania Khatun, since her birth. 

The little girl cannot walk due to clubfeet and also has deformity in her arms.   

Already gripped by poverty, Rizia could not even think of ensuring regular meals for her family, let alone their treatment.

In such testing times, Dhaka Ahsania Mission extended its helping hand to Rizia to arrange the treatment of her husband and daughter free of cost, relieving her of her predicament. In order to get the treatment, the family is dependent on vouchers issued by the non-government organisation (NGO).  

Like them, seventh-graders  Sania Khatun and Monirul Gazi are now receiving regular healthcare at the Heart Foundation and Intensive Care Unit through the company's vouchers.

Under the Health and Nutrition Voucher Scheme for Poor, Extreme Poor and Socially Excluded People (PEPSEP) project, which was launched on February 1, 2018, the NGO has provided healthcare to 25,365 beneficiaries from 6417 families in Satkhira and Savar municipalities till December 31, 2020.

The European Union is funding the project, which is also providing treatment for pregnancy, pediatric complications, alongside postpartum and family planning services through vouchers. 

Additionally, people suffering from infectious and non-communicable diseases get treated under the project, which also focuses on the eradication of malnutrition.

Habibur Rahman, a doctor at Anwara Memorial Clinic and Diagnostic Center in Satkhira, said the mission's project was different from that of others. 

"Through this project, the extremely poor are getting treatment through free selection. When cardholders arrive, services are provided to them on a priority basis. There is a dispensary for them," he said.

"They take medicine from there according to the prescription. Medical tests are also done within this budget. All treatments are given to mothers and children on a priority basis,” he stated.

The Area Manager of the project, Mizanur Rahman, said it provided doctors’ consultancy, diagnostic services, medicines and referral services through voucher cards.
