The department slapped the fines following hearings on Thursday
The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined eight businesses Tk4.25 lakh for polluting the environment.
DoE Director (Chittagong Metro) Mohammad Nurullah Noori slapped the fines following hearings at his office on Thursday.
DoE Deputy Director Mia Mahmudul Hoque confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Of the errant business enterprises, Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh Ltd was fined Tk1 lakh for air pollution, Bayezid Steel Industries Ltd Tk50,000 for air pollution, Tayyab Dairy Farm Tk15,000 for running business without obtaining Environment Clearance Certificate, Swapno Super Shop Tk50,000 for sound pollution, Naturub Accessories (BD) Ltd Tk55,000 for sound pollution, MJL Bangladesh Ltd Tk5,000 for releasing untreated waste, KDS Textiles Mills Ltd Tk1 lakh for keeping Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) outlet dysfunctional and Synthetic Adhesive Co. Ltd Tk50,000 for releasing untreated liquid waste.
