A retired principal was killed after a train ran over him in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar rail crossing.
The deceased Nirod Baran Roy, 60, was the principal of the Moghbazar branch of Ispahani School and College, according to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.
A resident of the city’s Kalyanpur area, he fell victim to the accident around 10am on Thursday when a Biman Bandar Railway Station-bound train ran over him as he was heading for Moghbazar on foot on the rail line.
He suffered critical injuries and was immediately taken to the DMCH where he succumbed two hours later, said the DMCH police outpost’s in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
The body was kept in the morgue and the railway police were told to take measures in this regard, Bachchu concluded.
In another accident, a 45-year-old unidentified auto-rickshaw driver was killed after a microbus knocked him in the capital’s Demra area.
The accident took place around 12:30pm, leaving him severely injured, said Demra fire station’s team leader Rashedul Haq.
“On informed, we rushed to the scene and found him lying on the ground. He was bleeding profusely and was whisked-off to the DMCH, where on-duty doctors declared him dead,” Rashedul said.
No one could be arrested in this connection, but the microbus was seized.
