Rezaul Karim Chowdhury took charge as the new mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) on Monday.

He took the charge during a ceremony held at Chittagong Engineers’ Institute.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, whip Shamshul Haque Chowdhury, former CCC administrator Khorshed Alam Sujon, Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority Zahirul Alam Dobhash and high officials of different government agencies remained present at the ceremony.

The speakers at the ceremony urged the corporation to take effective steps to address the problems like waterlogging, mosquito menace and traffic congestion.

The speakers also underscored the need for coordination among the service-providing agencies of the city.

On February 11, the newly elected mayor and 54 ward councillors of Chittagong City Corporation were sworn-in at a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

Awami League candidate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was elected mayor in the CCC polls held on January 27.
