Police have arrested a madrasa superintendent in Jamalpur for reportedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

Mukhlesur Rahman, superintendent of Misbahul Jannat Mahila Madrasa in Nagerpara under the district’s Melandaha municipality, was arrested with the help of locals on Sunday.

The survivor’s father filed a case over the incident the same day.

The accused was sent to jail following a court order on Monday, according to Melandaha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mainul Islam.

According to locals and police sources, Mukhlesur opened the Misbahul Jannat Mahila Madrasa, a residential madrasa for women and children, in 2017 in his own residence.

On March 4, the madrasa superintendent raped the girl inside the madrasa and locked her up in a room. The minor girl, with the help of other madrasa students, managed to escape at around noon the following day and told her family about what had happened.

Mukhlesur went into hiding when the incident became public.

Melandaha police station OC Mainul Islam said: “The survivor has been sent for medical examination at Jamalpur General Hospital.”
