One of the accused arrested, other two absonding
Three men have strangled their transgender friend to death having sexual intercourse with him in Abhaynagar, Jessore.
The victim has been identified as Alamgir Hawlader.
Sagor Mollah, one of the accused who was arrested in connection with the murder, confessed to being involved in the crime before Judge Mahadi Hasan of the Jessore Judicial Magistrate's Court on Monday.
He also admitted that two others named Yasin and Abul Kalam were involved in the murder.
The detainee is the son of Swapan Mollah of Panchkabar area of Abhaynagar upazila. The absconded Yasin and Abul Kalam are residents of Fakir Bagan area of Dhopadi village in the upazila.
According to Sagor Mollah's confession, he, Alamgir Hawlader, Yasin and Abul Kalam were four friends. They would regularly consume yaba together.
On the evening of March 2, Yasin and Abul Kalam called Alamgir and told him to bring some yaba to Fakir Bagan.
All four of them consumed yaba that night. Then Yasin and Abul Kalam had intercourse with Alamgir.
At one point, Alamgir threatened to tell others about the incident. They had altercations about this and at one stage, they strangled Alamgir to death, said Sagor.
Then they tied his hands and feet to a tree in the garden and fled the area, leaving Alamgir's body naked.
Abhaynagar police recovered the dead body on March 3 morning. Amena Begum, the mother of the deceased, filed a case in the incident.
The investigating officer of the case, Abhaynagar police station SI Gautam Kumar, went through the call list in the deceased's mobile phone and arrested the suspect Sagor Mollah.
SI Gautam Kumar said: "Sagor was arrested first. His confession later confirmed that two more of his friends were involved in the killing. However, the other two are still at large.”
He also said police were working to arrest the other two accused.
Officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station Mohammad Moniruzzaman said Alamgir’s mother had filed a murder case. One of the accused has been arrested and sent to jail. Attempts are being made to arrest the other two.
