The guard was working the nightshift during a string of robberies on Tuesday
Police recovered the body of an elderly man from the Khilgaon area of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Kazi Salauddin, a 60-year-old security guard, Khilgaon police sub-inspector (SI) Jahangir Alam said.
"Upon receiving news of the body, we recovered it from the spot around 7.30am," the SI said.
Salauddin’s body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. There were injury marks on his forehead and head, the policeman added.
SI Jahangir also said there were robberies at three shops behind Khidmah Hospital on Tuesday night. Salauddin had been working in the area as a night guard.
It is believed that the robbers hit Salauddin in the head and fled the scene, and the guard later died of his injuries. Details of the incident will be confirmed after the autopsy report is submitted, police said.
Kazi Saddam Hossain, the deceased’s son, said his father had begun work as a security guard 15 days ago.
“My father went out on duty after dinner, at around 11pm Tuesday night. I got a phone call around 9am in the morning that my father was in critical condition behind Khidmah Hospital in Khilgaon,” he said.
After rushing to the scene, Saddam found his father’s bleeding body on the sidewalk.
