Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is constructing the 1490- metre long girder bridge at the cost of TK 367 crore
The construction of much awaited bridge on Teesta river between Horipurghat of Sundarganj upazila under Gaibandha district and Chilmari Kheyaghat point of Chilmari upazila under Kurigram district is going on in full swing.
Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is constructing the 1490- metre long girder bridge at the cost of TK 367 crore.
A total of 68.34 hectares of land at Gaibandha point and 22.50 hectares of land at Kurigram point would be acquired for making connecting road at both sides of the bridge, sources said.
Besides, an 86 km long road from the bridge would also be connected to Rangpur-Bogra Highway in Dhaperhat area under Sadullapur upazila, said an official.
Gaibandha deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin visited the construction site of the bridge on Tuesday and talked to the officials concerned.
Project director Abdul Malek, executive engineer of LGED Ahsan Kabir, upazila chairman Ashraful Islam Lebu, and contractors were present.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally laid the foundation stone of the bridge through unveiling a plaque at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium of Gaibandha town on January 25, 2014.
Executive engineer of LGED Ahsan Kabir said the girder bridge would have 30 pillars and the construction work of the pillars was going on in full swing.
