‘I didn't come to take a selfie. Why is everyone so obsessed with TikTok, selfies, and Facebook live?’
Hefazat-e-Islam's Central Joint-Secretary General Mamunul Haque chased away a group of people with a stick when they tried to take a selfie with him when he got off a helicopter Sunamganj on Monday.
He along with other leaders of the group arrived to attend the Shan-e-Risalat conference.
When the helicopter landed around 12pm at Majlispur village in Dirai upazila, a group of young curious people gathered around them to take selfies.
In a fit of rage, Mamunul chased them away with a stick saying: "I came here today to talk about Islam. I didn't come to take a selfie. In Bangladesh, why is everyone so obsessed with TikTok, selfies, and Facebook live?”
Hefazat-e-Islam's Amir Allama Junaid Ahmad Babunagari arrived in Sylhet in the same helicopter to attend the conference.
Hefazat-e-Islam Central Committee Deputy Amir Allama Nurul Islam Khan, Senior Joint-Secretary General Junaid Al-Habib, Joint-Secretary General Nasir Uddin Munir, and other central leaders were also present on the occasion.
After disembarking from the helicopter, a team of 800 volunteers escorted them to a safe area.
Hefazat's Dirai upazila President Azizur Rahman presided over the meeting while Senior Vice-President Maulana Nur Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Mawlana Muktayer Hossain Chowdhury conducted the meeting.
