Police arrest one woman in connection with the incident
A woman has allegedly been tortured by her neighbours following a dispute over land boundary in Gazipur.
Police arrested another woman on Thursday in connection with the incident that took place at Sinabaho village in Kaliakair upazila on March 12.
The victim, Ayesha Akter, 40, a resident of the village, works at Salek Textile Ltd located in the neighbourhood.
Police and relatives of the victim said Ayesha and her neighbours got into an altercation regarding the issue of land boundary.
At one stage, Nasir Uddin, Aziz, Saleha and others tied Ayesha to a mango tree and beat her up.
As her daughter tried to save Ayesha, she was also beaten up.
Hearing their screams, locals rushed in, rescued and took the woman to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex.
Ayesha later filed a complaint with Kaliakair police station on March 13.
Police visited the spot and asked the local union parishad member to settle the matter.
On Wednesday, arbitration was held in the village where Nasir Uddin was fined. But, Ayesha refused to accept the decision.
Kaliakair police station Sub-inspector (SI) Aminul Islam said the victim filed a case on Thursday against six people citing their names and four to five unnamed others.
The law enforcers arrested one Shila Begum, 22, on Thursday afternoon, said Aminul, also the investigating officer of the case.
