Lt Col Ashik Billah, director (legal and media wing) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), confirmed the matter to media
BNP Executive Committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury was arrested on Sunday on charge of conspiracy to carry out sabotage by torching buses during Hefazat-e-Islam's shutdown.
Her associate Arman Hossain was arrested from Keraniganj around 9am on the same charges, said Lt Col Ashik Billah, director (legal and media wing) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Nipun and Arman will be handed over to Hazaribagh police station after completing necessary legal procedures, added the RAB official.
Nipun’s father-in-law and BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said law enforcers picked her up from his Rayerbazar residence around 3:45pm.
Gayeshwar said they do not know the reason for her detention. “I’m not in Dhaka.
“My family members said police didn’t tell them why she was being detained,” he told UNB.
Nipun is the daughter of BNP Vice-Chairman Netai Roy Chowdhury.
