21 cops injured in Brahmanbaria road accident

Police arrest the bus driver and his assistant

At least 21 policemen have been injured as a bus hit two pickup vans carrying the law enforcers on Comilla-Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria.

The incident took place in Pirbari area under Sadar upazila on Monday morning.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place around 8am when a bus of Econo Paribahan lost control and rammed the pickup vans, leaving the police personnel injured.

They were sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital immediately.

Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Anisur Rahman and other high officials visited the injured at the hospital. 

Mohammad Mozammel Hossain Reza, additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle), said seven of the injured are in critical condition and they have been shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

The bus was on the wrong lane while the requisitioned pickup vans were parked beside the highway during the incident, he said.

Police arrested the bus driver and his assistant, he added.
