A whale carcass washed ashore at Himchhari beach in Cox's Bazar Friday morning.
The dead marine mammal, which is around 35 feet in length and five feet in width, is assumed to have weighed around three tons.
After receiving the news, Fisheries Department officials and a team from Cox's Bazar district administration visited the spot.
Samples were collected from the carcass of the dead whale which is in a decomposing state, said Cox's Bazar District Fisheries Officer SM Khalequzzaman adding that it would soon be buried with the help of Cox's Bazar district administration.

He added: “The whale presumed to have died a couple of weeks ago. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy.”
“We have this species of whale in the Bay of Bengal. These particular whales are especially noticeable in the southwestern part of the Sundarbans,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Deepak Sharma, president of forest and environment conservation council in Cox's Bazar, said: “It’s been a while since the last whale had washed ashore in Himchhari beach which was in 2008 and once before that in 1996.”
