Detective Branch (DB) of police on Sunday detained an Islamic preacher from Mymensingh based on the allegations of delivering provocative statements during his sermons.
The detainee Wasik Billah Nomani, district secretary of the social organisation Khairul Ummah, was apprehended from his house at Sankipara in Mymensingh Sadar around 5pm.
Speaking on the matter, Mymensingh Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahmar Uzzaman said: “Wasik Billah had made a number of provocative statements on social media capitalising on religious issues, which could lead to misdirection of the general public including creating religious divisions.
“He was detained based on these allegations and he is currently in police custody. He will be taken to court on Monday."

Wasik Billah Nomani graduated from the Anandamohan College in Mymensingh. He had converted to Islam from Hinduism.
