A woman has brought rape charges against Rajshahi’s Puthia municipality Mayor Rajshahi Al Mamun Khan.
Puthia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohrawardy Hossain said the woman, who filed the case, is from Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi district. She used to work as a nurse at a rural hospital in Puthia in 2019.
While working there, the duo had a relationship. She alleged that promising marriage, the mayor raped her on different occasions, he added.
The police OC further mentioned that even after the girl left Puthia for work in Dhaka, he went to Dhaka and established a relationship with her again.
The woman filed the rape case with Puthia police station on Sunday night.
Police sent the woman to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Monday morning for medical examination.
Accused Al Mamun Khan, municipal mayor and former upazila BNP general secretary, was contacted on his mobile phone several times for comments but his phone was found switched off.
