Clash between teen gangs in Gazipur leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Police have arrested one person on suspicion of being involved in the incident

A schoolboy has been stabbed to death and another injured in a clash between two teen gangs in Gazipur.

The incident took place in Kuniapachhar area on Monday.

The deceased is Shakil Mia, 17, son of Rezaul Karim from Dhippur area in Mymensingh's Gauripur upazila.

A ninth grader of a local school, Shakil lived with his family at a rented house in Kuniapachhar area.

The injured, Fahim, 12, son of Faruk Hossain of the same area, is a seventh grader of a local school.

Gachha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ismail Hossain said two teenage gangs were at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area for the past few days.

Around 7:30pm, a gang of 25 teenagers and youths from Sonapara took position in front of Taleb market where they got into an argument with rivals Shakil and Fahim over a trivial matter, he said.

At one stage, the two groups locked into a clash when the duo was stabbed several times.

They were rushed to Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty physician declared Shakil dead.

Fahim was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for autopsy.

"The law enforcers have arrested a person in connection with the incident. Legal action is being taken in this regard," the OC added.
