Locals apprehended and thrashed a man, suspecting him to be a member of a local thief gang
A suspected thief was killed in a lynch mob attack at Pashra village in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
According to sources, a gang of local thieves became notorious for looting valuables from people’s houses after knocking them unconscious by secretly spiking their food with drugs.
On Monday night, a similar incident occurred at the house of Dilip Biswas and his brother Anand Biswas, where a family member fell unconscious after dinner.
Dilip Biswas said around 1:30am they heard a knocking sound on the door, prompting everyone in the house to raise a hue and cry suspecting something unusual.
Immediately, local people rushed to the spot and apprehended a person aged around 30 before giving him a good thrashing that left him injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took him to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Sumon Ranjan Sarkar, assistant superintendent of Faridpur police.
He also said the victim’s fingerprints were collected and efforts were being made to identify him.
