1 killed, 4 injured in clash between UP member candidates in Madaripur

A man was killed and four others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two member candidates of Kadirpur union parishad under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur.

The deceased was identified as Ilias Dhali, 40, of the upazila.

Police said at least five people were injured when supporters of two member candidates—Khalil Molla and Abbas Munshi—engaged in a clash with locally-made weapons on Wednesday night. 

The injured were taken to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. Ilias, who was referred to Madaripur Sadar Hospital, succumbed to his injuries en route.

Shibchar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Miraj Hossain said the victim’s body was sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case is yet to be filed with Shibchar police station but as of yet four suspects have been detained over the incident, he added.
