Parents, among three, held for forcing teenage girl into prostitution

Police on Thursday arrested the parents of a 14-year-old girl, among three people, for forcing the teenager into prostitution in Atghoria upazila of Pabna. 

The arrested are Toufiz, his wife Sabina Khatun, and Belal Hossain, all residents of Srikandapur Pukurpara village of the upazila.

Atghoria police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Faruk Hossain said Toufiz and Sabina with the connivance of Belal forced their daughter into prostitution.

At one stage, the girl went to the police station on Thursday finding no other way and narrated her tale of woes.

The same day, her grandmother filed a case against Belal as prime accused and two others under the Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act, he said.

Police apprehended the three and produced them before a court in Pabna.

Belal gave his confessional statement under the Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, said SI Faruk, also the investigating officer of the case.

The court sent all the accused to jail, he added.
