Police have arrested Abu Tayyab, a senior journalist and the bureau chief of NTV in Khulna, under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
He was produced before a magistrate’s court on Wednesday morning and subsequently sent to jail, confirmed Sub-Inspector Abu Saeed, the investigating officer of the case.
He said: “Police would appeal to the court for interrogating the suspect if deemed necessary during the investigation."

The night before, Abu Tayyab was arrested from his residence in Khulna city’s Nurnagar area around 10:30pm.
Earlier that day, Khulna City Corporation Mayor and metropolitan Awami League President Talukder Abdul Khaleq had filed the case with Khulna Sadar police station around 4:30pm.
According to the case statement, the NTV’s Khulna bureau chief was accused of defaming the plaintiff by publishing multiple “false” and “baseless” news articles, bringing allegations of irregularities and corruption against the KCC mayor on social media.
