The total number of cases against the former Ducsu vice president now stands at seven
Two more cases under the Digital Security Act (DSA) have been filed against Nurul Haque Nur, former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu), over provocative remarks he reportedly made recently and allegedly hurting people’s religious sentiments.
Cox’s Bazar Chhatra League Vice-President Moin Uddin filed one of the cases with Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station on Wednesday evening, confirmed Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias, OC of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station.
The other case was filed by Liton Sarkar, member of Comilla North unit of Swechchasebak League, with Debidwar police station in Comilla on Thursday evening.
With these two cases, the total number of cases against Nur over the same allegations now stand at seven, filed in five days.
Earlier, five cases were filed against Nur, including two in Dhaka and one each in Sylhet, Rajshahi and Chittagong on the same charge.
Plaintiff Moin Uddin alleged in the case statement that Nur had hurt the religious values and sentiments of many religious leaders, the government and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League and had tried to destroy communal harmony through offensive, fabricated and misleading information on social media.
Liton Sarkar made a similar statement in his case.
When asked, Debidwar police station OC Md Arifur Rahman said they would take steps in accordance with the instructions from the high authority of police.
On the afternoon of April 14, Nur said on Facebook live: “No Muslim can support the Awami League. Those who support the Awami League are fake Muslims. They take bribes, engage in extortion, drug trafficking and tender business and claim themselves as Muslims.”
