Earlier on Tuesday, another mortar shell was found in the same pond by members of Rapid Action Battalion
Two more mortar shells along with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) were recovered from the pond near the martyrs' memorial on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Friday morning.
An official of the university noticed the mortar shell in the pond and informed police, said Sub-Inspector Imran Hasan of Motihar Police Station.
On information, police personnel from the nearby Kazla outpost recovered two mortar shells and an RPG from the site.
Earlier on Tuesday, another mortar shell was found in the same pond by members of Rapid Action Battalion.
Later, a bomb disposal unit of Bangladesh Army detonated the shell at a safe distance from the RU martyrs’ memorial.
Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Lutfar Rahman said the recovered mortar shell was quite old.
There was a Pakistani military camp beside the spot from where the shell was recovered from. It was therefore assumed that explosives were from the Liberation War period, he added.
