Update : 05 May 2021, 11:00 PM

Awami League lawmaker AKM Bahauddin on Wednesday demanded proper investigation into the allegations brought against the Bashundhara Group MD for the death of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia.

He warned of a street movement in Comilla if justice was not served in the case.

The Comilla-6 MP voiced his demand at a human chain arranged by Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command, Jubo League, Swecchasebak League and Chhatra League near Comilla Town Hall.

Also a freedom fighter, Bahauddin said. “I demand that the person accused of abetting the suicide of Munia be brought to book after the complaints are investigated. Munia is the daughter of a freedom fighter. She is not from an ordinary family.”

Other speakers at the human chain alleged that it was a planned murder.

They demanded highest punishment for the Bashundhara Group managing director, Sayem Sobhan Anvir, the accused in a case filed over the death.

Sadar upazila Chairman Aminul Islam, District Administration Panel Chairman Abdullah Al Mahmud and local Swecchasebak League General Secretary Sadekur Rahman, among others, spoke at the human chain.

Police recovered the body of 21-year-old Munia from a flat in Gulshan 1 on April 26. It is suspected that she committed suicide.

A second-year student at Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, Munia had been living in the flat, which Sayem had rented for her, since March. Munia and Sayem had allegedly been in a secret relationship for the last two years.

Her sister Nusrat Jahan filed the case with Gulshan police, several hours after she was found dead, accusing Sayem of abetting Munia’s suicide.
