Citing the case statement, the police station Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Mizanur Rahman said Bazlur, a security guard by profession, lived in a rented house with his wife and two daughters in Chandana's Burir Mor area.
On May 21, Helena scolded her eldest daughter Bijli over a family matter at around 10:30pm.
At one stage, she doused her daughter with kerosene and set her on fire, he said in the case statement.
Hearing Bijli's scream, neighbours rushed to rescue her and put out the fire, but by then she had sustained severe burn injuries.
Bijli was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur, from where she was referred to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The girl died on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the burn institute, the police inspector added.
