The daily rate of Covid-19 infection in Satkhira has already exceeded 50%
Satkhira district administration has announced a one-week lockdown from 6am on Saturday due to a recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Covid-19 protection committee on Thursday afternoon, reports a correspondent from Satkhira.
SM Mostafa Kamal, the deputy commissioner of the district, said it has been decided to keep the emergency shops open from 9am to 12pm during the lockdown.
Besides, all types of public transport will remain closed during the lockdown. Strict measures have been taken to avoid crowds and movement of people during the lockdown.

There will be police checkposts at various regional road communication points with Satkhira, including Jessore and Khulna. Border crossing will remain closed as well. Mobile court will take action against those violating the restrictions, the deputy commissioner added.
Recently, Covid-19 infection has increased at an alarming rate in Satkhira district.
Meanwhile, the administration is in a dilemma with the legal and illegal Indian returnees. These returnees have been kept in different quarantines.
The Department of Health has suggested the concerned authorities for a lockdown as the daily rate of Covid-19 infection has already exceeded 50%.
In the last two days, the daily rate of Covid-19 infection in Satkhira was about 54%. So far, 245 people are undergoing treatment in the hospital and in the institutional and family quarantine by testing positive for Covid-19.
