The girl was kept in a room in Dhaka and raped by the accused for a month
Police have arrested a man on charges of abducting a 15-year-old girl from Bogra’s Dhunot upazila and raping her in confinement for over a month in Dhaka.
Masud Rana, 37, was arrested from Savar area on Tuesday, almost a year after a case was filed in this connection.
He was later sent to Bogra District Jail through a court on Wednesday.
According to police, Masud abducted the seventh-grader, daughter of one of his neighbours, on July 16 last year from a road in Deuria village under Gopalnagar union in the upazila.
Masud took the girl to a house in Dhaka and confined her for more than a month. He used to rape her after giving her sedatives.
On August 12, 2020, the mother of the young girl filed a case in this regard naming Masud as the key accused and six others, including local UP Member Fazlul Haque Babu, for abetment of the abduction and rape.
Police rescued the girl from Sirajganj’s Chandaikona area after the accused left her there on August 24.
Meanwhile, the investigating officer of the case, Dhunot police station SI Ahsanul Haque was closed to the district police lines for assisting the accused and hurling insults at the plaintiff.
Later, OC Kripa Sindhu Bala took charge of the investigating the case. Three of the seven accused, including Masud, have been arrested since then.
