Workers of Style Craft garment factory demonstrate for second consecutive day
Readymade garment (RMG) workers demonstrated in Gazipur and blocked a road demanding their dues, Eid bonus on Wednesday morning.
The workers and staff of the Style Craft garments factory have been demanding their dues for the last few months and observed protests in front of the factory several times, including Tuesday.
The authorities on Tuesday were given an ultimatum to pay the dues by evening but failed to do so.
According to locals, the workers came to the factory at 8am and started protesting without joining work.
They blocked the Dhaka-Joydebpur Highway around 10am which resulted in a gridlock of good-laden vehicles on both sides of the highway.
Additional police have been deployed in the factory area to avoid any unpleasant situation, Samir Chandra Sutradhar, inspector of Gazipur Industrial Police, told Dhaka Tribune.
The Style Craft factory has around 750 staff members and 5,000 workers.
Chameli, a worker of the factory, said: "We don't need any new dates or promises. We need our salaries.”
