Woman grazing livestock raped, killed in Rajshahi

Police have detained four suspects for interrogation

A 48-year-old woman who had gone to graze goats in a jute field near her house was allegedly raped and killed in Rajshahi's Puthia upazila.

The deceased was identified as Atika Khatun, 48, wife of late Atahar Ali of the upazila's Karigarpara area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Puthia police station Suhrawardy Hossain, said Atika had gone to graze goats in the field on Tuesday afternoon but she did not return till late evening. 

Later, her family members found her body in the jute field behind a community clinic. 

The cops were soon informed and a team from the local police station arrived there and took the body into its custody.

The OC said the woman's throat and left wrist were slit and there were several injury marks on her body too. 

"It seemed she was raped and killed. Her body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue for autopsy.

"A case will be filed in this regard soon. Four people have been detained for interrogation,” the police official added.
