Covid-19: 47 deaths, 1,639 positive cases in Khulna division

A number of 47 people died of Covid-19 and 1,639 more people have tested positive for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning in Khulna division.

“The death toll from the virus reached 1,772 after 47 fatalities were reported in 10 districts during the time,” said Dr Jashim Uddin Howlader, divisional director of Health on Thursday.

The total fatalities included the highest 468 in Khulna, 380 in Kushtia, 249 in Jessore, 157 in Jhenaidah, 131 in Chuadanga, 104 in Bagerhat, 88 in Meherpur 80 in Satkhira, 72 in Narail and 43 in Magura district.

Among the new 47 deaths 16 are in Khulna, 10 in Kushtia, four each in  Chuadanga, Jessore and Jhenaidah, three in Magura and  Meherpur and one each in Bagerhat, Narail and Satkhira district in the division.

A total of 1,639 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all 10 districts of Khulna division, taking the total number of infected patients to 78,040.

The new daily infection figure also shows a sharp increase compared to the previous day's figure of 1,621, said the health department sources, adding that the figure was 1,588 on Tuesday.

“Among the infected people, 49,961 have, so far, been cured of the lethal virus with 1,094 new recoveries found this morning,” said Dr Jashim, adding that a total of 10,407 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals of Khulna.

All the positive cases of Covid-19 have been brought under necessary treatment while 78,453 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 51,213 have been released so far.  

On the other hand, 192 more have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 206 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 459 were detected in Khulna, 298 in Jessore, 273 in Kushtia, 131in Chuadanga, 94 in Jhenaidah, 92 in Satkhira, 88 in Bagerhat, 85 in Meherpur, 76 in Magura, 43 in Narail in the division.

The Covid-19 caseload now stands at 20,282 in Khulna, 16,504 in Jessore, 11,470 in Kustia, 6,039 in Jhenidah, 5,103 in Bagerhat, 5,055 in Chuadanga, 4,713 in Satkhira, 3,624 in Narail, 2,903 in Meherpur and 2,347 in Magura district in the division.
