TCB goods recovered from Barisal Awami League leader’s house

The goods were stored to sell to local shops

Update : 15 Jul 2021, 01:07 PM

Police have recovered a huge cache of goods, belonging to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB),  from the house of Abul Hossain Khalifa, office secretary of the ruling Awami League’s Bakerganj upazila unit in Barisal.

After locals called the national emergency helpline 999 with the information that the goods were hoarded illegally, Bakerganj police in a drive on Wednesday evening recovered 1,000 liters of soybean oil, 500 kgs of sugar and 500 kgs of lentils from the leader’s house.

Confirming the development, Bakerganj police station Officer-in-Charge Satya Ranjan Khaskel said that a team of his colleagues raided Khalifa's house to recover the goods.

It is learned that the products were collected for Saikat Enterprise, a dealer company owned by one Alamgir Hossain Sabuj. Those were kept in the Awami League leader’s house to sell to the shops in Kaliganj Bazar that night.

However, Khalifa claimed that Sabuj was physically ill, which is why he took the TCB goods to his house.  Sabuj was supposed to take them away later, he concluded.
