CID pressed charges against 27 people including Kanchan

Former Awami League leader Biswajit Ghosh Kanchan has surrendered before a Dinajpur court in connection with the murder of two students of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in 2015.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Moniruzzaman sent the accused to jail after he surrendered to the cognizance court on Thursday.

On July 29, 2020, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Ramzan Ali filed the charge sheet against 27 people including Kanchan. He had been on the run since then.

Two students – Zakaria Shahid Nur Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan Milton – were killed in a clash between two groups on the campus on April 16, 2015.

The families of the victims filed two separate cases accusing 41 people.

On April 20, 2015, Kotwali police filed another case against 50-60 unidentified persons. In March 2020, all the three cases were transferred to the CID.

Kanchan, then the general secretary of Dinajpur Kotwali unit, was relieved of his post during the investigation.
