2 held with Indian medicine in Sylhet worth 15L

The drugs were being smuggled from India through the Kanaighat border area

Police have arrested two persons from Sylhet’s Shahparan police station area along with Indian medicines worth Tk15 lakh.

The arrestees are Faisal Ahmed, 25, son of late Yakub Ali of Naljhuri village in Gowainghat upazila, and Zakir Hossain Dalim, 28, son of Habibur Rahman of Atgram village in Zakiganj upazila.

Police signaled a private car coming from Tamabil to stop at the bypass point checkpost on the Sylhet-Tamabil road around 9:30am. But since the driver defied them, police chased him and stopped the car in Chaumuhana Bazar area in Khadimpara.

After searching the car, police recovered 10,000 pieces of Indian injections worth Tk15 lakh.

The driver and another person accompanying him were both arrested.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said the duo were smuggling the drugs from India through the Kanaighat border area to Sylhet.

“A case has been filed with Shahparan Police Station under the Special Powers Act,” he added.
