Eid day spoiled as many stuck in traffic on Dhaka-Tangail Highway

This year's Eid-ul-Azha celebration was largely spoiled for many as Tuesday's traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway dragged on till Wednesday morning.

Unable to celebrate the holiday with their families back home, these northbound passengers expressed frustration spending Eid morning stuck in traffic.

An increased load of homebound travellers saw traffic move at a snail's pace from Elenga to the eastern end of the Bangabandhu Bridge over the last few days following the lifting of lockdown restrictions ahead of the Eid holidays.

“The lingering traffic finally eased around 8am on Wednesday, much to the relief of the frustrated homebound passengers,” said Tangail traffic police Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam. 

“However, there is still pressure on the North Bengal route for cattle trucks,” he added.
