The division has so far recorded 31,428 cases since March last year
Barisal division logged 13 new Covid-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, taking the division’s death toll to 442, according to health officials.
Of the deceased, five –three from Barisal district and one each from Pirojpur and Jhalakathi --had tested Covid-19 positive while the remaining eight showed symptoms consistent with the disease.
Of them, 10 died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH), confirmed Dr Basudev Kumar Das, the divisional health director.
During the same period, officials said, 854 new Covid-19 patients were also recorded in the division, which took the total number of cases to 31,428 since the pandemic started in Bangladesh in March last year.
So far, of the total number of patients in the division, 18,465 have recovered and gone home.
Of the fresh Covid-19 cases in the division,288 were identified in the Barisal district alone. So far, this district has recorded 13,265 cases.
According to SBMCH authorities, 58 more patients were admitted to the hospital’s isolation and Covid-19 wards between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Some 291 Covid-19 patients are also currently undergoing treatment at the Covid-19 ward.
Hospital sources also confirmed that with the 10 latest deaths, 753 people showing Covid-19 symptoms died at the isolation ward of SBMCH and 290 confirmed patients died at the Covid-19 ward.
The Covid-19 test results of 90 out of the 753 deceased are yet to come back.
