Five members of a family killed in Teknaf landslide

In a separate incident, a 90-year-old man from Maheshkhali upazila similarly died after his house got buried under a landslide

Five members of a family were killed in a landslide in Hneela of Teknaf upazila early Wednesday just hours after Rohingya camp landslide incident.

The deceased were identified as Abdu Shukkur, 16, Mohammad Zubair, 12, Abdur Rahim, 5, Kohinur Akhter, 9, and Zainaba Akhter, 8, sons and daughters of Syed Alam, resident of Pahari Gram Vilejar Para of 4 no ward in Hneela union.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said their team is still at the scene.

Earlier on Tuesday, massive portions of hill collapsed in Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Moheshkhali, and Teknaf of Cox's Bazar, killing eight persons, including six Rohingyas.

Meanwhile, in response to this incident, the district administration of Cox's Bazar has started evacuating the residents at risk.

90-year-old man dies in Maheshkhali

In a separate incident, a 90-year-old man named Ali Hossain from Maheshkhali upazila similarly died after his house got buried under a landslide.

The incident took place in Ghona area of South Rajuar in Hoanak union of the upazila at around 2am on Wednesday, confirmed local UP member Abu Bakar

He said: “Two days of torrential rains triggered a landslide that buried Ali Hossain's house in the early hours of Wednesday. While other members of the house managed to get to safety, the old man Ali got trapped inside.”
